01 Who is responsible
Backdoor Botanics is a brand of Backdoor Botanics PTY Ltd, registration number 2025 / 786393 / 07, of The Atelier, Roodehek Str, Cape Town, South Africa. We are the responsible party for your personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
Our Information Officer is Duncan Stevens, who reaches you back from bb@oana.co.za.
02 What we collect
Only two things, and one of them is not really about you:
- Your email address, if you choose to join the Aftercare Club. That is the only field in the form. We do not ask for your name, your address, your pronouns or anything about your body.
- Standard server logs, kept by our web host: IP address, browser type, the pages requested and when. Every web server records this. It is used to keep the site running and secure.
There are no analytics, no advertising pixels, no tracking cookies, and no third party scripts watching you read. The site does not set cookies at all.
03 Why we have it, and on what basis
We use your email address to send you the Aftercare Club mail: product news, early access, restocks and the occasional piece of writing. Nothing else. We rely on your consent, given when you submit the form, as required by section 69 of POPIA for direct marketing.
Server logs are kept for the legitimate interest of running a secure, working website.
04 Who sees it
Nobody outside the business, except our web hosting provider, which stores the site and the file your address is saved in. We send the Aftercare Club mail ourselves, so no third party mailing platform holds a copy of the list.
We do not sell, rent or trade your email address. Given what we make, we treat the list as confidential by default.
Two third parties are worth naming because your browser talks to them directly. Our fonts load from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when a page loads. And when you use a buy button you go to Takealot, where their privacy policy takes over and they, not we, handle your order and payment details.
05 Where it is kept, and for how long
Your email address is stored on our web host's server, in a file that is not publicly readable, along with the date you signed up. We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, after which it goes and does not come back.
Server logs are rotated by the host on their normal schedule.
06 Your rights
Under POPIA you may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you
- ask us to correct it
- ask us to delete it
- object to us using it for direct marketing
- withdraw your consent at any time
Email bb@oana.co.za and we will action it. There is no fee and no form to fill in.
If we handle it badly you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za. We would rather you gave us the chance to fix it first.
07 Unsubscribing
Every mail we send carries an unsubscribe link, and it works on the first click. You can also just reply and say stop. No retention offers, no three-step exit flow.
08 Security
We keep the list small and boring on purpose: one field, no profiles, nothing to breach beyond an email address. Access is limited to the people who send the mail. No system is perfect, so if something does go wrong we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
09 Children
This site and these products are for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has signed up, tell us and we will remove the record.
10 Changes
If we add anything that changes this picture, an analytics tool or a new mailing platform, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Our terms and conditions cover the rest of your use of the site.
